In cooperation with the Hotel Sonnenhalde in Arosa, we offer a package price that includes four discounted hotel nights at the Sonnenhalde with breakfast, shuttle, and all Walser cultural offerings.

From August 7 to 10, 2025, the Walser Cultural Days invite you to the wild mountain valley of Schanfigg. From Arosa, the scattered settlements of Strassberg in Fondei, Sapün, and Medergen will be explored. Exciting lectures on Walser culture, hikes along Walser history, and various fascinating Walser activities, from mountain haymaking and "Liecht-Hengert" to traditional cheese-making in the Walser style, await you.

Thursday, August 7
4:30 PM: Guided tour of the Walser barn museum "Uf Truaja," established by Fluri Heinrich, with Hans Scherrer on the topic of mountain farming life then and now*
Parking available at Steinstrasse 24 in 7029 Peist, followed by a marked footpath of about 5 minutes to the barn museum

7:30 PM: Welcome aperitif and introductory lecture on the subject of Walser by Irène Schuler, author of the cultural and hiking guide "Walserweg Graubünden"

11:00 AM: Free hike from Langwies to Fondei along the interactive Walser hiking trail developed by Nando Mettler, using the free Actionbound app

12:30 PM: Lunch on the sun terrace of the Berggasthaus Casanna (at your own expense)*

1:00 PM: Mountain haymaking in Fondei with Hans Zippert (Rofel-Hans)*

Saturday, August 9
9:00 AM: Guided hike from Arosa to Medergen with Thomas Gadmer, the managing director of the Walser Association Graubünden.
Meeting point at 9:10 AM at Arosa Train Station

12:00 PM: Shared lunch at the Bergbeizli Alpenrosen in Medergen with anecdotal Walser intermezzo*

2:00 PM: Guided and commented hike from Medergen to the village of Sapün with Thomas Gadmer, followed by a village tour in Sapün by Jean-Pierre Anderegg on the topic of "Houses and Their Inscriptions."*

Sunday, August 10
10:00 AM: Film matinee with aperitif. Historical 16mm film footage on the topic of Walser, contextualized and commented by folklorist Silvia Conzett, will be shown.

Arrival

We are located in a very sunny and quiet area in Inner-Arosa – very close to the ski lifts/slopes/ski schools (3 minutes on foot), hiking trails, the Tschuggen toboggan run, as well as the bus stop and the Brüggli underground garage.

Your room will be ready for you no later than 3:00 PM and will be available until 11:00 AM on your departure day. If you arrive after 8:00 PM, we kindly ask you to inform us briefly.
