Arosa liest - Writer in Residence
The thriving Asian cultural scene and what it says about Europe and the emerging Asia.
Asian art long lived in the shadows in the eyes of the politically and economically dominant West for the past 200 years. However, with the economic boom of the past three decades and the accompanying political resurgence of nations like China, India, and Indonesia, "Oriental" art has found its place alongside paintings, sculptures, and installations of "Western" masters in European and American museums. Ernst Herb draws conclusions from his own experience as a collector and critic of Asian art regarding what this development means for the Western cultural canon.
Reto Bonifazi, art historian and Germanist, conducts a conversation with Ernst Herb beforehand.
