The flourishing Asian cultural scene and what it says about Europe and the rising Asia.

Asian art has long lived in the shadow of the politically and economically dominant West for the past 200 years. However, since the economic boom of the last three decades and the resulting political strengthening of nations such as China, India, and Indonesia, "Oriental" art has moved into the spotlight in European and American museums, standing on equal footing with paintings, sculptures, and installations by "Western" masters. Ernst Herb draws conclusions from his own experience as a collector and critic of Asian art regarding what this development means for the Western cultural canon.

Reto Bonifazi, art historian and Germanist, conducts a conversation with Ernst Herb in advance.
