The cello duo "ensemble le phénix" presents virtuosic music from the Classical and Romantic periods. All works include variations - changes of a musical theme regarding its melodic, rhythmic, harmonic, and formal appearance. The principle of transforming and repeating musical ideas is a fundamental aspect of composition and is effective in almost all genres and forms. A special role is played by the form type 'Theme with Variations', which has been documented under various names since the late 16th century.
