Churwalden 1880 058.jpg

As early as Roman times and throughout the Middle Ages, a road led from Chur through the Churwalden Valley and over the Septimer to Italy. As the main post station with a horse-drawn exchange, Churwalden had the best possible connections with the main towns on the Engadin route, as well as with St. Gallen, Zurich, Basel and Lucerne. The spa guests enjoyed the pure, invigorating Alpine air, spiced with the balsamic scent of the spruce and larch forests, and the excellent cow's and goat's milk whey. This was the beginning of a tourist health resort. Today, Churwalden is the gateway to the Arosa - Lenzerheide vacation destination.

The traditionally pure Alpine air also favors the production of dried meat, as the cradle of Bündnerfleisch and Salsize is in Churwalden.
