Führung Kirche St. Maria und deren Friedhof
General Information
History of the Marienkirche and visit to the wrought-iron grave crosses in the cemetery.
The church is first mentioned in the year 831. In the 12th century, it was complemented by a Romanesque tower. The late Gothic wing altar from the year 1479 is considered the second oldest in the canton of Graubünden. The paintings were created during the 14th century. The figure of Saint Christopher on the west side is attributed to the circle of the Waltensburger masters. The church has been restored in various ways over the centuries, most recently in the years 1990.
Regarding the grave crosses of Lantsch, Pastor Joseph Willimann summarized the symbolic value of the wrought-iron grave crosses. Grave crosses from various historical periods can be found, including Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and modern times.
