Swing de Paris
The band “Swing de Paris” consists of the Bernese saxophonist Marc Stucki, the two Lucerne musicians Felix Brühwiler (guitar) and Claudio Strebel (double bass), and the Glarus musician David Beglinger (drums and vocals).
The quartet was founded in 2005. Initially, the band played almost exclusively Gypsy jazz (e.g. by Django Reinhardt and Stéphan Grappelli). Over the years, the group became increasingly open to other styles. Recently discovered jewels from the peak of the American Swing era, as well as original compositions, are now in focus.
The repertoire is varied and contrasting: unison sections, slap double bass, sung ballads, swing, tango, waltz, up tempo. In many pieces, “Swing de Paris” sounds almost like a quintet, as the drummer and vocalist David Beglinger skillfully drums and sings at the same time.
