“The Embroiderer Maria Antonia Räss - a Sound Chronicle”
A literary-musical journey based on the novel by Margrith Schriber
Maria Antonia Räss (1893-1980), an embroiderer from the Grüt farm in Eggerstanden, hidden in the wave hills of the Inner Rhoden Appenzell, who at the age of 27 sails alone to America, with nothing in her luggage but an embroidery needle made of English steel, a bolt of the finest linen from France, and her Appenzeller costume. Her embroiderers have threaded the yarn through the fine cloth, which was admired and worn by celebrities such as Eleanor Roosevelt, Julie Andrews, and Isaac Stern. She had a lifelong friendship with Coco Chanel and Walt Disney.
