In a remote mountain village, journalist Vera meets a young stranger. She is writing an article about Romansh literature, he has inherited an old house and is trying to banish his war memories here. The two go for walks, eat together in the village inn, and gradually share snippets of their past. Kálmán reminds Vera of her older sister Sophia, who lives in her own world. When Sophia comes to visit, she too encounters the mysterious Kálmán, and a surprising connection develops that changes both of them. Gianna Olinda Cadonau tells the story of the encounter between traumatized individuals with powerful imagery. A novel that does without explanations while simultaneously making the unspeakable visible. A universal, impressive debut.
